Park City ambitious climate goals: to be net-zero carbon and run on 100% renewable electricity by 2030.
In October 2019, Park City hosted the inaugural Mountain Towns 2030 Summit, which brought together elected officials and staff from 30 mountain towns, as well as ski industry leadership and environmental experts. Our aim is to have impact on climate change beyond our own boundaries.
The Main Strategies Park City is using to reach net-zero by 2030 are:
Energy efficiency uses the best technology to help avoid or reduce energy waste so that we can turn on the lights, drive and carry out our daily activities using less energy.
Electrification means replacing technologies or processes that use fossil fuels, like internal combustion engines and gas boilers, with electrically-powered equivalents, such as electric vechiels or heat pumps. These replacements are typically more efficient, reducing energy deman, and have a growing impact on emissions as electricity generation is decarbonized.
Park City is working to develop new energy resources so that by 2030 the electricity we use annually will be matched by renewable production.
Regenerating natural ecosystems and enhancing carbon sequestration so that our community can thrive.
