Council members serve in an at-large capacity, meaning each one represents the entire community. The Mayor and Council members serve four-year terms. There are staggered elections in odd calendar years - two Council members and the Mayor are elected in one election cycle, and then three Council members are elected the next election cycle.

Compensation for Mayor and City Council
The following salary levels are effective for FY 2025-26:
Mayor
- Wages: $55,208.67 per year
- Health Benefits (or cash in lieu): $27,276.00 per year
- Car Allowance: $3,000.00 per year
- Total $85,484.67 per year
City Council
- Wages: $28,519.57 per year
- Health Benefits (or cash in lieu) $27,276.00 per year
- Total: $55,795.57 per year
The Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem. shall receive $100 per wedding performed.
